We believe the best products come straight from the earth.
It is the rich soil, clean water and nourishing sunshine that make our ingredients grow, and the power of nature that makes them so effective. Yet our planet is fragile. We must be mindful of the resources we use, and minimise our impact on the earth. Jurlique is committed to doing business responsibly and seeking meaningful opportunities to make a difference. In our efforts to become more sustainable, we are always striving for cleaner, greener ways of doing things. It’s an ongoing journey, but here are some ways we are taking action today…
We are actively reducing our footprint
We reuse and recycle as much as we can – our current target is a 20 per cent reduction in energy, waste and water consumption by 2015 (from 2010 levels) per product produced. We are proud to say that as of 2013, more than 90 per cent of Jurlique’s production site waste is reused, recycled or energy-recovered.
Our passion for the environment has grass roots
The work of our full-time Environmental Officer is supported by volunteer initiatives like the Jurlique Green Team, a cross-functional group united by a shared passion for protecting the planet. The Green Team comes together voluntarily to educate, inspire and empower their fellow employees around sustainability.
Together we plant thousands of trees every year
During the winter months, Jurlique employees gather at our Adelaide Hills farm to take part in our annual Tree Planting Day. The species we plant help increase biodiversity and improve the natural habitat for all native life on the farm. As of today, we have planted more than 10,000 trees native to South Australia.
We never stop looking for ways to make our packaging greener
Jurlique is a long-term signatory to the Australian Packaging Covenant (APC), cementing our commitment to continually lower the environmental impact of our packing. In 2014 we received APC’s ‘Highest Performer Award’ for leading the way in packaging sustainability and innovation. Our APC Action Plan is a seven-year road map to maximise our use of sustainably sourced packaging and to improve its recyclability.
Our farming methods protect the Earth
Biodynamic* farming is about growing plants in a holistic way, in cooperation with nature and with minimal impact on the earth. We don’t use any chemicals, pesticides or herbicides that aren’t from nature or created naturally.
We work with suppliers who share our values
We strive to source any ingredients we don’t grow ourselves from sustainable and fair-trade suppliers.
