Product Philosophy Are our products 100% Natural? Our goal is to maximize the content of natural ingredients in all of our formulations – today nearly all of our ingredients are either completely natural or derived from nature. Are our products 100% Organic? Our products cannot currently be sourced from 100% organic ingredients. The full range of necessary emulsifiers, preservatives, and ingredients are simply not available from 100% organic sources currently. However, our goal is to maximize the content of organic ingredients in our formulations. Are we aiming to have our products 100% natural and organic? Our primary aim is to maximize the amount of herbs and flowers in our products that are grown on our own biodynamic farms – to infuse this living energy from the earth into our products. When this is not possible, we source from other biodynamic or organic farms. And for those ingredients which do not yet exist in a biodynamic or organic form, we use all-natural or naturally-derived versions. What timeframe are we setting ourselves around these goals? Due to constant upgrading and improving of our sources and formulations, we will continuously work on reaching these goals; it is our on-going mission. However, as not all of the ingredients contained in our formulations are grown on our own farms, we are dependent on the speed of change and innovation in our supplier’s industry. We currently see significant change happening there, so that it seems feasible to achieve the above mentioned goals in several years time. Is Jurlique “the purest skincare on earth”? Jurlique products are indeed the purest they can be while delivering results that customers expect. Product Formulation What is a PEG? PEGs are a family of colorless liquids that are soluble in both water and alcohol. As such, they are commonly used as emulsifiers, combining together ingredients that don’t normally mix well. The PEGs we select to use are plant-derived fatty acids. However, as the leader in natural, organic, and biodynamic skincare, we are striving to develop all new products to be free of PEGs. Are PEGs safe? Yes. PEGs are commonly used in nearly all cosmetic products, and those being used by Jurlique are held to the highest standards of safety and purity. Have our products always had PEGs? Yes they have always been there. Previously however, due to the fact that we were primarily only active in, we listed our ingredients using commonly used English names -- this has meant using the simplest form of an ingredient’s name to achieve clarity. Now that Jurlique is being sold around the world, our listing of ingredients needs to comply with global INCI naming regulations, which is why you are seeing ingredients expressed in a different manner. An example of this, is the use of the ingredient Vitamin C. Previously, we had simply referred to this ingredient as ‘Vitamin C’. To be INCI compliant, however, we need to now refer to it as ‘Ascorbic Acid’ which is the technical name. Do we use parabens? No. Do we use preservatives? Jurlique’s formulations are preserved using the minimum quantities of safety-tested and internationally approved preservative systems. This ensures that our consumers can enjoy the same Jurlique experience day-by-day, even after prolonged storage of opened products. However, we have just developed a natural preservative system that is in the new products we are launching now and will be used in our new skincare range launching in June 2008, and we aim at using it in all future Jurlique products. Ingredient Lists Have we changed the listing of ingredients in the past? Yes. Over the past 20 years, as the brand has evolved and we have strived to provide the most advanced and beneficial products to our consumers, many products have undergone a formulation improvement to enhance performance and quality. For example, we have exchanged Green Tea, Grape Seed and Turmeric in Herbal Recovery Face & Eye Gel with extracts from Panax ginseng Root Extract and Gingko biloba Leaf Extract. It looks like there are some new ingredients on the new packaging, are there? No, there is a change in how we have listed the ingredients. As the brand expands internationally in new markets, we need to follow global norms with regard to the listing of our ingredients. The design change into our new packaging provides a great opportunity to change our listing to be internationally compliant as well as fully transparent with our ingredients. Have the products changed? No. The way we represent our ingredients has changed to be internationally compliant, however, they remain the same high quality, efficacious products that they always were. What does it mean “From natural essential oils”? This indicates that the compound has been extracted (separated) out of an essential oil. Is the fragrance in our products 100% natural? All Jurlique products are formulated with natural and nature-identical fragrances. We use no fragrances that are strictly artificial or can not be found in nature. We had always said that our products do not contain artificial coloring? Is this still the case? We have never used nor will ever use artificial coloring. What percentage of the ingredients is grown on the farm? Now that we have expanded our farm acreage, we are able to grow 95% of the herbs in our products on our own farms. Can you confirm that all ingredients that come from the farm are certified organic and biodynamic? Yes, all ingredients we grow are certified organic and biodynamic. Has the percentage of natural ingredients reduced as part of this process (INCI)? No – neither the ingredient content nor the formulations have changed. Has the percentage of alcohol in our products increased? No the percentage of alcohol has always remained the same. Customer Queries How do the recent changes impact customers’ skin reactions? Our products have not changed, so this should have no impact. How do the changes impact customer returns? They do not. As previously, if the customer has a receipt and is not happy with the product’s performance then they may return it. Instructions We now include the instruction “Shake before use” on all products, why is this now being included? With the packaging change, several of the products are now in clear packaging, and because the product naturally separates, it is important to get a uniform distribution of essential oils through the product. Shaking helps in this regard. |
